Mauro Leads Huskies to Sweep

FAYETTEVILLE, NC-The Bloomsburg University softball team wrapped their spring break trip with a sweep of Fayetteville State on Friday winning 10-1 in five innings in the opener and 4-1 in the nightcap with Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) going a combined 4-4 with six RBI.
In game one Mauro went 2-2 with two home runs and drove in three runs to lead Bloomsburg to the victory. Mauro helped the Huskies get off to an early lead with a first inning solo homer, then, added a two-run shot in the third as Bloomsburg scored seven times in the frame. Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley) also had RBI singles in the second and third innings, while Emily Young (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) also slammed a two-run run in the third.
Pitcher Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) went the first four innings and allowed just one hit and struck out seven.
In game two, Mauro went 2-2 and drove in three runs, while Reed went 2-2 and scored two runs. Mauro had an RBI ground out scoring Reed in the first, then added a two-run single in the third scoring Reed and Natalie Zimmerman (State College/State College).
Amanda Whitford (Mt. Bethel/Bangor Area) got the victory in her debut for the Huskies. She fanned eight and allowed just one walk in going the distance.
Bloomsburg, 5-1, plays on March 14 at Goldey-Beacom College.
